Tatanka- Return of the Horses by Virgil Foutz

Tatanka- Return of the Horses by Buddy Foutz. Buddy is a high school classmate of mine from a small town in Northwestern New Mexico. Our home town is circled by several American Indian reservations and we had a number of American Indians as fellow classmates. So it is not unusal that the main character of Buddy's first two books is an Indian Warrior. In his first book Tatanka- Spirit Walker he introduces you to Tatanka, his life and trials. This second book is a continuation of this Warriors life. The author is extremely talented in drawing the reader into the story. I felt like at times I was sitting in front of the camp fire listening to the daily discussion about how was the best time of the year and path to return some forty horses to Bright Heart's Father, the Chief or her tribe. The west, in this early time of our country, was mostly inhabited by numerous Indian tribes and a few fur trappers. So if you are only two individuals driving 40 horses across this country, you can bet than running into either an Indian raiding party or small groups of fur trappers, they are going to be very interested in relieving you of some or all of your horses. Tatanka continues to demonstrate his Warrior talents in maintaining ownership of the horses. Again as in his first book, Buddy has demonstrated great knowledge of American Indian life, traditions and languages. This book is exciting, keeps your interest and full of history for an individual interested in the American Indian life and our countries Western lands.

Tatanka's Epic Adventure Continues

Mr. Foutz continues the exciting epic adventures of Tatanka and his friends. Tatanka's goal is to return a herd of well bred Appaloosas to their rightful guardians.

As this adventure unfolds, Mr. Foutz provides further insight into Native culture, thought and behavior as Tatanka, and those around him, thrive in the midst of natural disasters, horse thieves, fur trappers and the invasion of illegal immigrants.

Tatanka moves forward in his journey to become a better person while helping those around him. He is the epitomy of what we would like to become as we strive on our own path for truth and goodness. Tatanka often plays the trickster to teach valuable lessons to those who will not learn from listening.

Good basic lexicon

"A Concise Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament" by William Holladay is an excellent basic lexicon for students of the Hebrew and Aramaic scriptures. The print is large enough as to be readable, although some of us who are getting a bit old will need a cheap pair of reading glasses. To get maximum use out of this lexicon, it's important to at least have a rudimentary knowledge of Hebrew grammar. Although it isn't as detailed as Brown, Driver, and Briggs, it's sufficient for the needs of anyone whose primary purpose is to check on the meaning(s) of a word.

Quality Lexicon for Translation!

Even though there are a great number of electronic language tools out there, sometimes it is nice to get away and do hands-on translation with a grammar and a lexicon. This lexicon is a fantastic abridgment of a much larger work. The newest edition has very nice glosses with a concise listing for each word. The word is given along with a number of examples of the different forms it may appear, greatly helping identification of either nouns or verbs. The primary meanings are also listed and in bold. The book is also arranged in alphabetical order according to the Hebrew, so just isolate the root and beginning letter, and you should be good to go.

Overall, I highly recommend this lexicon for hands-on translation.

Snowy Fate

A short, interesting story of a young woman that has yet to understand who she really is, why her father left her and her mother when she was a little girl and why he stood away for as long as he did. She's always thought it was her fault he left them and ended up growing to hate him because of it. Not seeing or hearing anything from or about him until his death, she's now finding out many truths that seem unreal to her and just wants to leave the house her father has left for her in his will. But she's stuck because of a heavy snow storm.

Damon is a shifter, a mountain lion to be exact. He is aware of Aspyn and he knows a lot about her. He also has to share his secret with her as we all the fact that they are mates and he wants to help her through her hard time, protect her and be everything she wants in a man (mate).

Together they work out all of the truths about her father, herself and Damon's secret. After all, you cannot mess with fate!

I enjoyed the story and I know it's a short story but I felt as though it was incomplete. It went by way too fast and did not contain enough background information and character descriptions on both Damon and Aspyn for me to truly get into. I have read a couple of other works from Marissa Dobson and know she's wonderfully capable of a completely satisfying short, paranormal or not.

Anyone looking for a quick paranormal read and does not need more background information will fully enjoy Snowy Fate :)

snowy fate

This is a short Novella that you can devour in one quick sitting. I would suggest this book to people that want a cute short story. I enjoyed it, but it was a bit short for me. I don't normally read novellas for this reason, especially when I like the storyline and characters like I did here, because I always want more! My only complaint here is that I wish the story was longer. (I think it took me under an hour to read)

Aspyn is a good character, but she gave into Damon a little fast in my opinion. She seems like a strong person and I couldn't really get on board with her accepting everything that was thrown at her within the first few hours of knowing this guy. I did however, see where she was coming from. She was feeling some really strong things for Damon and I guess I can see what she did what she did. But it just seemed a little rushed for me. It's not rushed at all for a novella but again, I am used to full length books. (That is the problem with ebooks sometimes, you can't always tell how long they are- and I like to get some idea of length when I go about judging the pacing of the book)

Overall, the story is interesting and I enjoyed reading it. For the length of the book, the plot did not feel rushed. I mean, things flowed at the same rate throughout but when considering other books, it all felt a little fast for me. But that is what the book is- it is just a cute short story about two people. And if that is what you are looking for, I think you might enjoy Snowy Fate.

An Amusing Short Story

This was a very short story. From the synopsis, I thought this book sounded really intriguing and went out and purchased it. Right off the bat, the book made me laugh. Not from the purposely built in humor, but from the `I just don't think so' corner of my mind.

So, first we have a girl who has gone to her estranged father's house to take care of anything that must be taken care of because he has died. Then, a snow storm comes by and she realizes she might be stuck in this unfamiliar and remote location. Then a naked man bursts through the door. So (just to recap) strange house, stranded by snowstorm, naked man. I think the last thing through my mind would be, `Oh he looks too sexy to be dangerous' and my first words to him wouldn't be `Who are you?' I think it would be more along the lines of WTF!! But of course that is just me.

I think I was hoping for more from this book. More story, more romance, more believable.
