The explosion of discovery of CYP (cytochrome P450) genes through genome analysis―more than 3500 to date―provides the more than 10,000 scientists around the world who study these monooxygenases a rich source of interesting and important research problems. Many have remained central elements over the 18 years that span the three editions of this book, including mechanisms of catalysis, oxygen activation and inhibition, gene regulation, and P450 structure. Each new edition updates our knowledge of such central issues in the study of P450s, emphasizing the timeliness of this newest volume.

In this newest edition, we find that the newest discussion of P450 structure includes information of bacterial (soluble) P450s interwoven with that of eukaryotic (membrane bound) of this superfamily, highlighting the newest developments in this area. But the suddenly wealthy Mike seems to be up to no good, and when David shows up in Rome on business, Georgie slowly starts delving into the puzzle. But Georgie unveils more than just a mystery-she discovers a source of strength in herself, uncovering a scandal at her own company and accusing long-suffering David of treating her like a child when he miraculously forgives her for her dalliances and betrayals. David may play along, but some readers will be rubbed the wrong way by Georgie. Though the plot zooms as fast (if sometimes as erratically) as a Vespa on the streets of Rome, the novel's selfish protagonist drains the fun from this jangly caper.

Once back in London, she finds herself embroiled in suspect mergers and makeshift spy-girl antics. Surprisingly Disappointing

I love Rome and like this genre, so I was prepared to be enchanted by When In Rome... Instead I was disappointed by the main character, whose immaturity and lack of perspective ruined the book for me. The ex-boyfriend's character was extremely one-dimensional, making it impossible to understand why the heroine would want him back. Yet the current boyfriend's character is portrayed as near perfect, making the heroine's actions baffling to the reader. If the characters had been multi-faceted, the ensuing course of events might have been involving. Instead this attempted mad-cap adventure stubles before it gets of the ground.

Bad bad beginning but excellent middle & end

I am so glad that I didn't put this book down and not finish it. After reading the first 100 pages I could not believe what a self-centered, selfish, and idiotic girl Georgie was. I was appalled by her character or actually, the lack of it. And there were some things she was COMPLETELY oblivious too because she was so self centered. Totally obvious things. However, I checked on Amazon to see what other readers might have thought, whether anyone actually finished and liked this book. AND SO MANY OF THE READERS LIKED IT!!! I was shocked and decided to give the book a second chance. I took it on my plane trip from MSP to SEA and did not put it down once! I loved it! Georgie truly goes through some much needed transformations and gets to know herself and those she loves and thinks she loves deeper and more meaningfully. And really, this book isn't so much about a trip to Rome as it is about having the curtains lifted on your life. Letting some light shine through, being able to see yourself clearly. Seeing your family, friends, and loved ones clearly and really coming to know and appreciate their strengths and weaknesses.

So if you start reading this book and are totally put off by how shallow and stupid Georgie is, don't stop. Read it to the finish-you will be satisfied by your decision. And you will feel happy and refreshed like any good book makes you feel after its reading.

Oh and I read on the editorial review that Ms. Townley is Sophie Kinsella's sister! I have all four of Ms. Kinsella's novels & love them all! What a talented family!

Chick lit does Rome

I really, really enjoyed this book! My opinion of most chick lit books lately has been that there is too much "crap" published out there. Its not always good.
This one is funny, witty and good. Our main character hooks up with her ex, while still with her current boyfriend. This, of course, leads her to all kinds of escapades, including a weird and totally impossible trip to Rome.
I laughed out loud at times (which I rarely do when reading) and thought the writing wonderful.
HOWEVER, the lead character was portrayed as so innocent and naive at times that It made me want to throw the book up against the wall. Come on, can we really be expected to believe that she never has a clue?

Calamity Jane Told her Truth

Here's a fine book, from the amazingly brief period of our "Wild West" -- that short era of violent expansion across Indian lands that is stamped in most of our history books with heroic imagery and family sentiment. I know the images well from my own family's history in Texas. Calamity Jane's book casually exemplifies the way sentiment, longing, and heroism (especially her own), are scrambled with her battles and nonchalant disdain for the Native population.

Is it the story true? Calamity Jane was an historical figure, an extraordinary trick rider and shot, scout, part of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, a stage driver and more, but apparently one prone to making colorful claims about her adventures. I assume it's a good mix of both what happened and what she wanted to happen.

Did she write these letters, or are they fabricated? I like to think they're her words, but I haven't yet seen any serious discussion of the history of the text. I'd like to!

I'd like to know the story of how the package of papers, reportedly found with her at her death, made it's way to book form. One story claimed the letters went to her daughter, who used them decades later for proof of her age, to acquire federal government assistance, in Billings, MT., where an astute clerk saw their value and helped get them to the public arena. True? Someone had to do a lot of editing, too. Who?

This is certainly a good collection of thrills. But it's also full of emotionally confused anger, and it's grimy and defeated enough at the end, that it's no Hollywood ending. I assume the letters are full of some author's truth, maybe Calamity Jane's own truth as she lived and imagined it.

After all that talk of "truth", it's lots more interesting to get down to trying to make a "Twenty Year Cake." (Make cakes, put them in a crock, fill the crock with brandy, seal it, and it lasts just fine, if you can wait that long.) Or to imagine her story of travelling alone through Indian territory, riding on her head, red hair streaming in the wind, to convince the Indians she was no threat. Or making some money by cooking for a friendly local gang of outlaws. She sees only her own tragedy, but gives us plenty of spice along the way. Is this her truth? For the moment - I'll just say, yes, it is.

I know it's a novel, but I want to believe it's real

You'll love and treasure this book, a heart-rending series of letters from Jane Cannary Hickok (Calamity Jane of fame) to the daughter she gave up for adoption to a wealthy and genteel family. Jane teaches herself to write so she can leave a series to letters to her daughter, and the letters are full of misspellings and grammar errors, written as she would speak.
Wonderful fictional telling of a brief era that ended with the death of Calamity Jane and her contemporaries.

Even Better 30 Years Later!

I first read this book as a teenager in Montana in 1983. I loved the book and the characters North and Dianna, and have never forgotten it. I couldn't remember who wrote it though. All these years later I started searching for historical romance novels with the words "Surrender" "North" and "Dianna" in them but couldn't find it. A few days later suddenly I could see the book cover with the title "Beyond Surrender", and 5 minutes later I had downloaded the kindle version and was reading away. I didn't go to bed last night so I could read it all at one time.

It was very interesting to read this book again as a woman in my 40's vs a naive teen, and I loved it just as much this time.

What a treat to find it after looking for it in used bookstores and online after all this time.

need to relieve stress?

This is great adult coloring book. I can't wait to start in coloring it. I have just started this "stress relief" hobby, but I am enjoying it very much. It is a great way to get away from it all and this book is no exception. I would recommend it to anyone. There are garden designs, mandalas, animals and paisley patterns. This book is a little different as the background part of the pages is black, where the other books I have the background part of the pages is white. The backside of the pages is also black. The pages are made of a nice heavy quality paper, which will be nice for when I uses markers or pens that might tend to bleed. This book has a nice variety of designs where a lot of books tend to have one theme and all the pages follow that theme. You do not have that with this book. There are 30 pages to color, but also right inside the front cover there is a page you can color that looks just like the cover of the coloring book.

Most pictures are moderate in difficulty -- one of my favorite coloring books

Stress Relief is one of my favorite coloring books -- well-drawn designs that are fun to color. The book has 30 pictures with a nice variety of animal, flower and paisley designs. I would rate the difficulty as moderate for most of the pictures, with a few that are easy or challenging. This is a Midnight Edition with an all black background and white designs.

The book measures 8.5” x 11” with pictures printed on just one side of each page. The paper is a good weight -- gel pens don’t bleed through to the page underneath. The pages are not perforated so tearing them out can be a little tricky. It's a great book -- I'm really enjoying it!

Unfortunately I learned by purchasing this that I am not a fan of the black page coloring.....
