A must-read. A rich and practical book.

This book is a must-read for anyone looking to deepen their quest for self-knowledge. I have never encountered a book that depicts the journey of a human being from shadow to light with such clarity. This content is extremely pragmatic and contains rich lessons for people from all walks of life. I've enjoyed reading through the book from cover to cover once, and now going back to read a chapter at a time to really absorb the teachings. Since the book covers a large scope of topics and different areas of life, it's been helpful for me to pick and choose sections based on my current reality. This has ranged from solidifying a consistent spiritual practice in the mornings to understanding the role of money in my life, from overcoming my own selfishness to navigating the intricacies of love, intimacy, sexuality etc. If every politician, teacher, business executive, parent etc read this book, we'd be much better off as a whole!

This book grew on me. When I first flipped through it, I wasn't drawn in immediately. But as I delved in, this journey became quite compelling. And now as I continue to revisit this book, my level of understanding of the human path continues to expand. I like to highlight important pieces that stand out as a I read. Almost every line in this book is highlighted now!

Specializing in Java, C#, C/C++, Python and R, he is an active technology blogger, open source contributor, and author of more than ten books. Jeff holds a Master’s Degree in Information Management from Washington University, is a senior member of the IEEE and a PhD student at Nova Southeastern University in computer science. Useless for deep understanding, not good for beginners either

The book describes few concepts. A beginner would expect to see a bigger picture rather than a seemingly random set of methods or models. A professional would look for detailed explanation of concepts.The book provides neither. Descriptions are shallow, formulas contain errors, pseudo code is often wrong. Some description would better be replaced with concise and clear formulas, some formulas require explanations. The book needs a proof editing. However, the bigger problem is how the author presents the material.
I'd recommend a much better book to start with: "Neural Networks and Deep Learning" by Michael Nielsen.

No-buy for a beginner and not useful for a professional

The book is more like a quick compilation of a college student's note. Concepts are presented in a relatively isolated manner; connections between concepts are, for the large part, missing. Furthermore, if the materials presented are rather shallow like in this book, readers will expect to see a strong emphasis on, or hands on exercises of, practical applications. But this book doesn't seem to help much in that regard either, despite what the book claims. The book does give introduction to a bunch of models, which can be useful for a beginner. But at least this edition I wouldn't suggest any one to buy because of poor editing. For example, the pseudo code fragments listed in the book are often wrong, or different than what is described by the text. References to formulas, etc need some proof reading, too.

Good information, terribly written

First, this book is tiny. Only 77 pages, including 10 for the glossary. And those pages are only about 5.25 x 7.75 inches. Use Amazon's Look Inside feature to get a feel for the wide spacing on those pages. I've had larger user manuals.

Second, the writing and presentation are so bad that they are a huge distraction. The first word of the book is misspelled. The first illustration is a grainy screenshot with arrows childishly drawn in. It's hard to find a page not marked with typos and grammar that is awkward at best.

Third, the book is partly a promotion tool for the author's web site. There are repeated references to what the author can do to help startup stations, and some discussion of fees.

But down deep, there are signs of an author who might really know how this really works. He lays out what pieces are necessary for a satellite TV station as well as alternatives in cable, over-the-air, and internet broadcasting. He also includes ballpark price estimates for each of these pieces. And he even adds bits of wisdom, such as choosing a satellite that already has direct-to-home viewers so your new station will have a larger initial potential audience.

For the quality of presentation, this book is terribly overpriced. But if that information is worth the money to you, it's available. Just be sure to use Look Inside so you'll know what you're getting.

The only choice

If you take into account that this book is the only choice about this matter out there, then is not so bad, (that's why I gave a 3 star rating).
The language of the book is adequate for non-technical people, which is good, but the transmission processes are note really clear and is missing some good schematics about the process and equipment needed for broadcasting. The whole book seems like a brochure promoting the company and the website of the author, you will find a lot of "for more information visit my website", perhaps that's why the explanations aren't very clear and leave a lot of loose ends, it looked to me more as a promotional magazine that a serious book. But as I said in the beginning, this is the only book I founded about this matter.

Despite the grammatical errors this book gave me exactly what I was looking for. INFORMATION. I wanted to know the costs involved in starting such a project. Satellite TV is still a growing opportunity arround the world and this book really gave me the answers I wanted. If you are looking for something that is to that is going to give you the information you want then this is the book for you. If you are looking for a grammatical masterpiece look somewhere else.

The book we've needed!

This book provides the much needed bridge between "I can spin yarn" and "I can make that with my own yarn!" It is full of beautiful pictures and helpful instructions on making exactly the yarn you had in mind for a project. I love that there are also suggestions for how much roving and what kind of hand dyed roving is needed for projects. How to combine braids of roving is one of the stash tools we all need. Now there is no reason not to buy all that yummy fiber out there calling your name! This book is well thought out and put together. The knitting projects at the end are good standards to start with to gain confidence in using your own yarns. An excellent addition to your spinning reference library!

Seriously, this book is one of the best, most comprehensive references anyone within the fiber arts community should have. It is library worthy of both novices and those who've spun a few billion miles of fiber... Not to mention the added bonus of phenomenal patterns offered within by some of the most elite and current knitwear designers. A Keeper! Fills a Niche

There are soooooo many beautiful craft books out there that I have signed up for Kindle Unlimited in self-preservation! Eye candy just isn't enough reason to own a hard copy of anything anymore.

So, it was a very rare leap of faith that caused me to pre-order this book. I'm not disappointed! So often I whiz through a new book and realize that only a fraction of the information really needs to be in my library, and I return or sell it.

I'm keeping this one because:
1. The premise really is fresh and fills a niche. Hand spinning has taken off fairly recently, with Ravelers, Etsy shops and YouTube cross-pollinating all of us.

2. The patterns really are carefully chosen. It's rare to like every single pattern in one book, but this time I do. Accessories are the best gifts and what I make most of the time, so I'll probably make everything here.

3. There is a unique system of coding the patterns, which the author explains clearly in the first half of the book. The shorthand she employs is concise and helpful.

4. Your fiberista nerdiness will rejoice over the many helpful factoids sprinkled about in the book.

So, kudos! I'm keeping it!

I learned SQL 25 years ago. i wish this book had existed then, instead of the expensive, hard to understand computer books that existed back then. I also bought Mike McGrath's PHP/Mysql and Python books.

Excellent book for those new to SQL

1. Easy to follow along and explains everything in simple language

2. Illustrated with the queries and outputs from MySQL (both Windows and Linux) so you don't get lost

3. Doesn't waste your time with necessary crap, explaining only what's important

4. The book comes with data and scripts so that you can follow along every step of the way

I am extremely happy that I learned the basic of SQL with this book. Highly recommended to those with little previous programming experience. Fast and insightful learning experience.

Leaves the serious Mansfield fan still wanting to know more!

Martha Saxton does a fairly good job for a simple basic chronological biography on Jayne. Saxton sticks to the point in the picture she has painted of Jayne. From Jayne's simple basic middle class upbringing to her zealous tinsel-town lifestyle once star struck in Hollywood. Many details of Jayne's personality and behavior I feel were left out or just indeed forgotten. My only argument is the argument many have had on the real fact whether Mansfield was really literally decapitated. Terrible rumors have flown around over the years that her head even ended up in the backseat of the car! The book said she was decapitated, however I have actually seen the death picture and the head was still attached from what I could tell. The ending of the book provided rather interesting information though about the settlement of the estate. Many of the more serious fans or collectors though may still be left somewhat hungry after reading this book. However I would still recommend reading it for those wanting to know whatever they can possibly find out about Mansfield as she was indeed a true Hollywood legend.

The author illuminates the tail end of Hollywood's golden age, and how a brunette girl from Texas became a Hollywood blonde bombshell and star! Martha Saxton points out that unlike Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield could speak three languages and showed real acting talent!

Feminism and Jayne

You would not ordinarily expect Jayne Mansfield to be held up as a feminist model, but that's what Martha Saxton does in this unusual book.

Martha takes the view that Jayne was a cluster of paradoxes - very intelligent yet "played dumb," very down-to-earth yet adaptive to an extreme degree of glamour, very ambitious yet reticent in a strange way.

I learned a lot about who we were in the American 50s because of this book, and enjoyed the ride - except for the very end of Jayne's life in the tragic auto accident.
