This series just improves with each installment. The characters are so well developed you feel like you know them. The scenery is so well described you have a perfect vision of it. And then there's the action! I love this series and this third volume exceeds expectations!

The Stakes Are Raised...

Darkfire picks up from the end of Mystic, with Loren and company being pursued from pretty much any organized group that they've come across. About the only people that aren't still out to get them are the den of thieves that they met earlier and left behind after leaving the city, with the King's Law, the Mystics and an unethical family of merchants all chasing them across the land. We begin to really see the glimmerings of the wider picture and threat to the land in this book, as our heroes find an abandoned fort that isn't as abandoned as they'd been led to believe and which is acting as a staging area for an invasion. The stakes are high, and not everybody is destined to survive.

Looking forward to the 4th book in the series.

Darkfire, as the end of the first trilogy in the Nightblade epic, is a well-rounded finale to this first section of Loren's life. It contains fight scenes so well-written that they fairly spring to life from the page, intimidating villains, vividly-described monsters, and thought-provoking moral dilemmas that are not commonly found in a large range of fantasy books. The main characters can be somewhat polarising, but on purpose, in order to further this invitation to examine some widely-held fantasy tropes, and none of them are unsympathetic even when they present a point of view the reader or even other characters may disagree with.

Exciting and excellently-paced, pick up this book if you are looking for an introduction to a good, thoughtful fantasy series.

Bundahishn, meaning "Primal Creation", is the name traditionally given to an encyclop�diaic collections of Zoroastrian cosmogony and cosmology written in Book Pahlavi. The original name of the work is not known. The traditionally given name seems to be an adoption of the sixth word from the first sentence of the younger of the two recensions. Most of the chapters of the compendium date to the 8th and 9th centuries, roughly contemporary with the oldest portions of the Denkard, which is another significant text of the "Pahlavi" (i.e. Zoroastrian Middle Persian) collection. The later chapters are several centuries younger than the oldest ones. The oldest existing copy dates to the mid-16th century. The Bundahishn survives in two recensions. A shorter was found in India, and is thus known as the Lesser-, or Indian Bundahishn. A copy of this version was brought to Europe by Abraham Anquetil-Duperron in 1762. A longer version was brought to India from Iran by T.D. Anklesaria around 1870, and is thus known as the Greater- or Iranian Bundahishn or just Bundahishn. The greater recension (the name of which is abbreviated GBd or just Bd) is about twice as long as the lesser (abbreviated IBd). The two recensions derive from different manuscript traditions, and in the portions available in both sources, vary (slightly) in content. The greater recension is also the older of the two, and was dated by West to around 1540. The lesser recension dates from about 1734. Traditionally, chapter-verse pointers are in Arabic numerals for the lesser recension, and Roman numerals for the greater recension. The two series' are not synchronous since the lesser recension was analyzed (by Duperrron in 1771) before the extent of the greater recension was known. The chapter order is also different.

Edward William West (1824-1905), usually styled E. W. West, was a scholarly English engineer, orientalist, and translator of Zoroastrian texts. He was educated at King's College London. He prepared five volumes of Pahlavi texts (the Marvels of Zoroastrianism) for Prof. Max M�ller's monumental Sacred Books of the East series, published from the years 1880 to 1897.

seems like a great buy

At first glance, seems like a great buy. Learn how to use different kanji for the situation hand. But then, realize after buying it, no explaination sometimes when only two or more kanji are listed, without any explanation differentiating them!?
In these cases, you know there are alternatives, but you must look up the differences in another dictionary.
My copy is sitting unused as a result.
