A Boon to the Academic Community ...

As disclosed by the author himself, this is a groundbreaking text. Dr. Mubarak observed a decided lack of academic texts on this topic and decided to fill this notable gap. The author also stresses that he has remained intensely current, creating a textbook for the twenty-first century.

If you are a professor considering adopting this text for your class, here are some details that may assist you in your selection process:

-The language is clear, the editing is immaculate, and the tone is encouraging. The author has acted both as a professor and as a professional in this field. His experience in both arenas makes this text both accessible to students and infinitely trustworthy.
-"Tip boxes" (found sporadically throughout the text) contain brief messages that truly translate as quick, but invaluable "tips."
-End of chapter exercises allow students to practice what they have learned on a chapter by chapter basis (and offers effortless homework for professors).
-Charts, graphs, and figures are large enough and clear enough to be easily understood (with is not the case with all like textbooks).
-Extensive glossary for quick reference.
-Extensive abbreviations reference section.

This textbook is a boon to the academic community. It is well worth any professor's time to lend consideration to this textbook.

There's something for everyone here

QUICK SUMMARY: Very thorough treatment of scheduling and control with virtually no prior knowledge of this topic to use. Well-suited for students of project management, even those outside of the construction industry. But it's kinda ugly to read by today's standards (grayscale only graphics and black text throughout).

BACKGROUND: I'm a PMP and have a master's degree in project management. This book reminded me of another, similar book I used in grad school which was written for the construction industry but which was used in our grad studies filled with IT project managers and other PMs outside of construction. You don't have to be in the construction industry to benefit from this book; it's written for the construction industry because construction still predominantly uses the traditional, so-called waterfall approach to project management (unlike the IT industry which has increasingly moved towards agile project management). That said, the book begins to focus more on themes within the construction industry in the second half of the book, which then make it less relevant to PMs outside the construction industry.

WHAT I LIKED:

- This books assumes very little by way of the reader's knowledge. In fact, it begins with the Project Management Institute's definition of what a project is, and explains each new concept and term without assuming that the reader has any prior knowledge of project management. This would be a good addition to someone studying, for example, the Project Management Professional designation and wanted a deeper understanding of the time management knowledge area.
- The book uses plenty of visual graphics, charts, tables to help the reader's understanding
- The book is well-organized in how it presents the material, where subsequent chapters build on earlier chapters
- End-of-chapter exercises would be beneficial for educators intending to use this in an academic setting
- The second half the book includes sophisticated scheduling methods which go far beyond what's necessary to pass the PMP exam (but which are good for PMs to know, if only on an academic level rather than on a practical level)

WHAT COULD BE BETTER:

- The book is black-and-white text with grayscale graphics; as such, it's unattractive by today's standards and would benefit from having color graphics and colored fonts for headings and subheadings.
- The book doesn't offer a lot of integration with web-based resources where readers can learn more
- I have no idea where to get answers to the end-of-chapter exercises
- Earned Value concepts are briefly mentioned, but I didn't see a full treatment of EV for scheduling (like, for instance, Schedule Performance Index)

CONCLUSION: If you're new to project management or if you are experienced, you can find benefit from this book. New or aspiring PMs will be most interested in the first half of the book, and seasoned PMs will be interested in the latter-half. There's something for everyone here.

About the Author
Melody Carlson has written more than 200 books for teens, women, and children. Before publishing, Melody traveled around the world, volunteered in teen ministry, taught preschool, raised two sons, and worked briefly in interior design and later in international adoption. "I think real-life experiences inspire the best fiction," she says. Her wide variety of books seems to prove this theory.

GREAT story... BUT....

I absolutely LOVED the idea of this book, and when it got here I absolutely loved to read it with the kids. We do bible study daily in our homeschool, and they are learning God's Word and truth. My point? Well... they (my kids) are now relating a child named Benjamin and some of his friends and intertwining it with the real account in the bible, and I'm just not comfortable with that. I like the story, but now when my kids are telling the story of Jesus' death and resurrection, they are now talking about how "...then Judas gave Benjamin silver..." And I'm forced to tell them "Benjamin isn't part of the REAL story...but yes, the other characters are..." I'm just not sure if this will be a part of our reading any longer, just because I cannot expect them to believe the word of God if there is a fictitious character added to it, as in this book. It's causing confusion with the Word. I suppose for us, we'll stick with the original story in the bible.

I reeallllly liked this book... just cannot use it any longer. Perhaps this won't be a problem for anybody else.. but it was for us.

This story is wonderful. My 4 and 10 year olds love it. One problem - however this problem is NOT with this great book- was that after reading reviews I purchased the "Resurrection Eggs" from Family Life to go with it. The story matches up fairly well but there are a few pages that don't have eggs in that set, and there are a few eggs that don't match the pages. That is because they do NOT go together. The Resurrection Eggs are a wonderful set and have a little booklet inside that tells the story of each egg- not quite as well told as Benjamins Box. The Benjamin's Box book is an awesome book and at the top of each page shows a color of egg and a topic (I don't have it in front of me, so for example blue egg, whip). I'm not sure if there was a set of eggs at one time that was sold with this book. It doesn't matter. My 10 year old and I decided that next year, we make our own Resurrection Eggs! We will get the right color eggs and scavenge around until we can fill them to match the book and store them in an egg carton:) Then we will have two sets of Resurrection Eggs to choose from each year and two books. We are totally happy with our purchase of this book. I got my misinformation from some other reviews. But if I hadn't, we wouldn't have these two great products and a fun plan for 2015!

We have used this book with Resurrection Eggs (eggs that contain symbols of the Passion story) for almost twenty years. We have shared it with family as well as church and after school youth classes. It takes literary liberty as it is a sort of historical fiction. The story from a youth's viewpoint as he lives during the biblical time of the passion week holds the children's interest. The story helps the children understand the culture and how this story affects them in a personal way. The children look forward to opening the eggs as the story unfolds.

Many Editing Mistakes

While the format of this book looked appealing at first glance, the content is poorly written. There are enough typographical and grammatical errors, including missing words, to distract the reader from the actual content. A lack of illustrations for several of the key skills is another reason I am giving this only a marginal rating. I purchased this as my first text in the area of home health care and did not want to spend a lot of money. On a positive note, it is a very quick read and hits the main points. Download the Kindle version to spend as little as possible for this book.

Fantastic Textbook to read in or out of school

This book was required reading for me but I enjoyed reading almost every single chapter. As a healthcare worker, it truly challenged the way I think and placed ethical issues in a perspective that allowed me to think for myself about all of them. There is a slight focus on the PPACA which I guess should be expected since that is one of the lastest issues our country is challenged with. The text covered many issues that we have been faced with throughout the last two to three decades in healthcare and I liked the fact that it discussed newer and more interesting issues first to keep you engaged.

I appreciated that it is kind of like an anthology in that most every chapter is a different author making each chapter feeling fresh. If you work in healthcare and serve patients, whether you are going to school or not, I recommend this book. It is certainly enlightening, educating, and challenging!

Chapter 1 was tough getting through but once you understand the theories, the remaining chapters get easier to understand. I have not read the entire book yet due to the start of the semester at school. I hope that the examples given throughout the text continues to drive the point home.

Don't expect to learn any songs with this book. This book is strictly for learning how to sight read, which is a good thing. Every guitarist should learn how to read standard notation and move away from tabulature. This book is good for developing single-note soloing skills, but I think there are better guitar method books out there where you can learn how to sight read while playing interesting pieces that don't sound like simple exercises.

This is an excellent vehicle to learn and enhance sight-reading abilities with guitar. Each exercise seems to link to previous exercises and move you forward with more challenges. The genius is in the author's ability to make you read the notes...you can't anticipate what's coming next. Thanks to William Leavitt.

About the Author
Dr. Michel Capderou is a lecturer at the University Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC) in undergraduate astronomy courses and graduate level spatial mechanics/astrodynamics courses. He is also a researcher at the Dynamic Meteorology Laboratory (LMD) at the �cole Polytechnique, where he works on the preparation of satellite missions and IXION software.
